Safety!Plus

Job related accidents among youth are happening at an alarming rate. Lack of knowledge and proper training are largely to blame. Most accidents happen due to unsafe or careless conditions by the employee or customer. Accident prevention and fast action when accidents occur are important to reducing personal injury and property damage.

Service!Plus™ students will learn a number of safety and loss-prevention techniques that can be applied to any job, ensuring that personal safety is always protected. In addition, students will be taught a number of loss prevention topics that will assist them in protecting the interests of their employers. Materials for Safety!Plus have provided to the Service!Plus·Training·Institute by the Workers Compensation Board of British Columbia and the BC Crime Prevention Association. Safety!Plus delivers a four-hour insight discussing industry’s top safety issues.

Lesson 1 - A WorkSafe Attitude. SEE IT…THINK IT….DO IT 

• Identify characteristics of the work environment

• Understand and identify dangers and work place hazards 

• Recognize the impact of unsafe work practices

• Practice identifying hazardous situations 

• Demonstrate a proactive attitude towards safety in the workplace. 

Lesson 2 - Responsibilities for Safety 

• Understand the responsibilities shared by employees and employers

• Learn the importance of proper training

• Understand the difference between your rights and your responsibilities

• Learn about the “Refusal to Work” regulation 

Lesson 3 - Hazard Recognition 

• Service!Plus™ students will become aware of their ability to affect the outcome of a potentially hazardous workplace situation

• Use evaluation skills to analyze a series of unsafe work practices and determine how to be proactive rather than reactive on the job site. 

Lesson 4 - Crime Prevention 

Crime against retail business is increasing at an alarming rate and the possibility of violence in the workplace is an unfortunate reality. Most existing safe guards are not enough to stop even the most amateurish efforts. Safety!Plus provides training in each of the most common forms of crime:

Recognizing the potential for violence Minimizing the risk from violence Procedures for reporting incidents of violence. Shop-lifting prevention. Fraud prevention. Robbery prevention.
